5. Saronic Islands

6. Dodecanese

7. Crete.

Archipelago means a chain of islands or a sea with many islands and the word was originally used in the chain because many of the islands are extensions of the Greek mountains, the perfect backdrop for a Greek island holiday.

Many the Greek islands rise majestically out of the ocean with the white houses sitting on the hillside like individual seats in the ancient Greek amphitheaters. The houses shimmer and dance before your eyes in the fierce Mediterranean sun. The stark bleakness of the white houses is tempered by the light blue railings found everywhere, the trailing purple bougainvillea plants, the backdrop of dark blue Mediterranean with the Greek island ferry cruise boats bobbing up and down on the water. The old Orthodox churches with their bright blue roofs splash more color across the landscape of a Greek holiday island, as you hear the famous windmills of Mykonos in the background. The terracotta Ionic columns in front of the houses remind you firmly that a Greek island holiday is unique.

Today a Greek island holiday can be as relaxing or strenuous as you choose to make it. Vous is a tiny island situated two kilometres from Serifos in The Cyclades, Greece. Its Greek name translates from its shape which is that of an ox, no one lives on the island because is too small to sustain a village at its longest point it is only 570 m but it is a Mecca for tourists seeking a relaxing fishing holiday in the warm blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Myrtos is one of the most dramatic beaches in Kafalonia Greece, cut into a sheer cliff on the northwest coast. The mine explosion in the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was shot here, but despite the beautiful white beach the only activity allowed is swimming, making it a safe place for children to holiday as they cannot be mown down by jet skis.

If you are in search of a dream holiday experience with stunning views verdant lush landscapes begging you to appreciate breathtaking natural beauty then a Greek island holiday is what you're searching for. The tiny secluded coves are the ideal place to chill out with a glass of cold retsina, or raki, a plate of Dolmathakia Me Rizi, or stuffed vine leaves to us plebeians and watch the magnificent sunsets as the sun sets on another perfect Greek island holiday experience.
